3 Takeaways from the Tern User Conference

I am in the airport after an incredible 5-night cruise with Tern, and I am buzzing with excitement.  It was so JUICY, it almost makes me want to burn everything down and start a new travel agency.  Don’t worry!  I’m not going to do it…but it’s tempting.

Side note:  my new favorite big-ship cruise line for my own personal travel is now Virgin Voyages.  I’d like all conferences to be held on a VV cruise, please and thank you.

Here are my top 3 takeaways from the conference:

1) Tern is delivering a level of access and transparency that we’ve never seen before.  This makes it very easy to know if you are aligned with their mission, and I certainly am.  They understand that this is a business built on passionate human beings, looking for connection.  They want to get the work that doesn’t bring us joy out of the way.  All of it.  And they are willing to share their long-term vision, even though it could open a can of worms.  The amount of tech & intelligence coming to the platform is literally mind-blowing.  You may not have to leave it hardly at all to do your job well.  They are committed to creating a whole ecosphere for us to thrive in.  All of the things I currently use Trello for will eventually have a place in Tern, and then integrated AI will use that information to help me plan.  I will be able to plan better and faster.  MUCH faster.

2) Tern listens.  They are not a team of travel advisors, and they know it’s imperative that they give us a voice and then actually listen to what we say.  AND THEN ACTUALLY DO IT.  They showed up ready to level up and made a ton of updates, just between the opening session and the closing session.  Advanced analytics, a better app & user experience,  a smoother payment process, a dashboard that allows you to see what is going on in your business at-a-glance (probably my favorite).

3) Tern understands that we often work in silos and are craving community.  It was a brilliant move to bring like-minded advisors together to share and learn.  Not just from Tern, but from each other.  In my opinion, there’s nothing like peer-to-peer sharing to get people excited and motivated.  It’s why I do what I do.

Seen.  Heard.  Understood.  Valued.  That’s how Tern is creating a community of die-hard superfans, which is exactly what I hope you’ll strive for with your own clients.
